More ways to explore.
Understanding the brain should not depend on being able to see or use a 3D model. The same educational content is available in text.
Using the explorer
- Use Tab and Shift+Tab to move through controls. Buttons support Enter or Space.
- Use the Overview, Regions, and Sources tabs to explore each scenario without interacting with the canvas.
- Use the numbered steps or previous and next controls to move through the explanation at your own pace.
- When the canvas is focused, arrow keys rotate the view. Plus and minus zoom. A reset-view button returns to the initial position.
- Switch off “Paint a signal” to rotate with a drag. Painting is optional: the numbered steps and Send signal button provide the same learning content. On touch devices, drag the model to paint or rotate in the selected mode. The zoom buttons offer an alternative to gestures.
Motion and presentation
The explorer has pause and manual-step controls. The Background motion button pauses the ambient network animation. If your device requests reduced motion, the welcome model does not automatically rotate and simulations start in manual-step mode. Color is accompanied by step labels and explanatory text.
The site adapts to smaller screens and includes a skip-to-content link. You may enlarge text using browser zoom. If WebGL is unavailable, the model displays a message while the signal and region explanations remain available.
Current limitations
A screen reader cannot convey the exact visual geometry of the 3D cortical surface. Region names, descriptions, source links, and simulation stages provide a text alternative. Deep-region markers are schematic rather than anatomical segmentations.
